One week after the devastating fire at the Kwadaso market in the Ashanti region, victims, mostly women, are struggling to rebuild their lives.
The fire, which occurred on August 1, 2024, destroyed over 40 shops and their contents, leaving many traders without a source of income.
Adwoa Connie, a 71-year-old mother of six and caretaker of seven additional children, is among those affected.
She is finding it challenging to care for her family and is worried about repaying a loan she took for her business.
Despite the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly’s promise to rebuild the market, Adwoa Connie is struggling to raise seed capital to restart her business.
Other victims, including 74-year-old Ama Pokua, shared similar struggles, highlighting the need for urgent support from the government and the public.
The traders are relying on donations from benevolent individuals to survive, but more assistance is needed to help them get back on their feet.
The fire has worsened the plight of these traders, who are now calling for help to provide for their families.
