Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to expedite the payment of bonuses to the National Amputee Football Team.
The team’s coach, Stephen Richard Obeng, revealed that the players are yet to receive their bonuses for winning gold at the 2023 Paralympic Games and the 2024 Amputee AFCON in Egypt.
Despite submitting accounts of donations and monies received to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the team has not received any payment.
Some players, who are still awaiting their return to European clubs, have threatened to boycott future national team engagements if the issue persists.
Responding to this at a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia assured the team that he would collaborate with Sports Minister Ussif Mustapha to address the issue.
“I’ll discuss this with the sports minister to get the facts and, if necessary, expedite their payments. I’ll raise this issue immediately after this engagement,” he stated.
