Ken Agyapong recounts how a former MCE directed Fosu Catholic Hospital to reject his GH¢30K cheque

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has disclosed that he holds a grudge against the management of the Fosu Roman Catholic Hospital for an incident that happened during John Evans Atta Mills’ administration where a GH¢30,000 cheque he donated toward patients care was rejected and returned to him.

Mr Agyapong said the incident left him in shock and that he has never forgiven the actions of the hospital.

Speaking at the campaign launch of the Ablekuma South constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday, August 4, the Assin Central legislator alleged that the cheque was returned upon the instruction of the then Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

“I have never forgiven the Fosu Roman Catholic Hospital and let me tell you why. During President Atta Mills’ time, I was on my way from Kumasi to Assin Fosu and I heard that private hospitals were on strike because the National Health Insurance had not paid the hospitals and so I drove to the Fosu Roman Catholic Hospital and I saw a lot of people who were seriously sick and I was shocked and so I took my cheque and wrote GH¢30,000 to cater for the sick people and the MCE went there to warn the Roman Sisters not to accept the cheque and they also made a mistake and returned the cheque to me and wrote a letter on why they were refusing it and since then, I have never forgiven them.

“As we speak, I still have the cheque with me and they denied the patients care because the MCE threatened them and these are the kind of people you are campaigning for,” he said.
