The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for increased surveillance and security measures ahead of the December 7 elections, citing intelligence reports of plans by some individuals to incite violence, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking during a police briefing with political party representatives on election preparedness, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua stressed the importance of proactive measures to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

He specifically urged strict monitoring of motorbike use on election day, referencing a violent incident during the Assin North by-election as a cautionary example.

The NPP’s call aligns with broader efforts to uphold law and order during the crucial 2024 general elections.

“No one should be above the law, and on December 7, violence should not play any role in our elections and we want the police to ensure peace during the polls.

“We have picked up intelligence that some people are planning to cause chaos in the Ashanti region. Having said that, the use of motorbikes on December 7, in the past, we realised that people use motorbikes to cause trouble and so we want to know whether people will be allowed to freely use motorbikes around polling stations.”
