A John Mahama government would drive significant growth and ensure its proceeds are distributed equitably across society- especially targeting Ghanaian households and communities below the breadline.
People living in poverty, people with disabilities and pensioners will certainly receive more support. There’s a credible manifesto to level up the Republic-and, therefore, monumental challenges with education, health and unemployment will be dealt with effectively.
The expectations of an NDC government- equality, fairness, and social justice — remain. Mr Mahama, already familiar with the workings of government, is not expected to enjoy a pleasant political honeymoon upon the assumption of executive power.
From day one, he will begin to work frantically for your general well-being and standard of living. His lean administration shall be focused on the pursuit of a novel economic model — the 24-hour economy — and workable ideas aimed at radical societal and economic progress.
Politics is inherently a contest of competing interests. The NDC is committed to championing the cause of workers and shall shrewdly mediate between the interests of the working class, rejecting total corporate-owning-class dominance.
John Mahama and the NDC’s style of governance shall reverse the cynicism and disdain with which the average Ghanaian views the political elite. As a proven anti-corruption crusader, he will cease the use of public office for private profit. Hence, it won’t just fall to the next NDC government to rebuild our economy and public services but also to rebuild trust in politics.
While Mr Mahama has given the nation an unvarnished account of the dismal legacy he will inherit, and rebuilding Ghana means painful decisions, a new NDC government will not come to power blaming the last.
NDC’s proposals for reform are a beginning – and it will inspire a system which needs to be more ambitious, more imaginative and more proactive. We know we can’t solve the country’s problems overnight but the point is to make a start. To begin to make a difference, in the economy, in living standards, in healthcare, and in how we exercise our citizenship in the advancement of our Republic.
The New Patriotic Party crashed the economy and sent the cost-of-living crisis into overdrive. We have become trapped in a low-growth, high-tax cycle that is not working for the Ghanaian people. For too many people in Ghana, those foundations of a good life feel as if they’re crumbling today. A generation looks to the future with worry rather than hope.
The dream of a safe, secure and affordable household is further out of reach. More people find themselves in insecure work and are dragged into a race to the bottom. Families in every corner of the country are feeling worse off. We have forgotten what it is like to be cared for. Political uncertainty has fuelled economic uncertainty.
But I know first-hand the transformative difference the NDC in power can make. That is why the first part of Mahama’s plan to rebuild our economy is to bring back its stability. In place of gimmicks, NDC will do the hard work to get our economy growing for everyone everywhere, releasing Ghana’s untapped strengths and powering up our rural towns and cities.
An NDC government will deliver secure homes, decent paying jobs and strong communities where people are currently struggling to make ends meet. When we talk about growth, we are not just talking about lines on a graph.
It’s about cedis in the pockets of working people, security in retirement, thriving markets, and the tax revenues to rebuild strong public services. Every policy in NDC manifesto is fully costed and fully funded, a promise we know we can keep, and the Republic can afford.
Under Mahama’s leadership, investors will look at Ghana and profess it is a safe haven in an increasingly turbulent Africa and the rest of the world. At a time when other West African countries look to be tilting towards military rule and unstable politics, Mahama would ensure Ghana is a secure and stable place where businesses can invest with utmost confidence. Mr Mahama will work with the business community, supported by a potent industrial strategy, to get Ghana on the move again.
We are at a crossroads as a nation. Do we want four more years of chaos and decline or stability and change that can build a brighter future?
That is what is on the ballot paper at this general election and it is the choice Ghanaians will have to make on December 7th. If NDC are elected today, the work of change begins tomorrow.
The prospect of an NDC government should be a time for celebration, relief, getting ready to roll up our sleeves and getting stuck into making progressive change. John Mahama’s ready to change the Republic. But change will only happen if you vote for it.
