The One Ghana Movement has called on the government to immediately reopen the country’s land borders, which were closed a day before the December 7 polls.
The closure of the borders according to the Interior Ministry aims to safeguard Ghana’s electoral process.
In a statement, the group warned that this blanket restriction could lead to legal challenges against the election results, potentially disrupting national peace.
“The One Ghana Movement calls on H.E. the President, the Interior Minister and the government to immediately re-open our land borders to stop the disenfranchisement of Ghanaians whose only ‘crime’ has been their failure to travel by air to return home to cast their votes in the exercise of their rights”.
The Movement urged the National Election Security Taskforce (NEST), superintended by the Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to publicly denounce such conduct, including any military deployment not sanctioned by him or his task force.
