Job creation is everybody’s responsibility, not only govt – Industrial Workers Union

The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has expressed support for President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s proposed economic policies, particularly his plans to address unemployment.

Mahama’s 2024 manifesto highlights a 24-hour economy initiative and accelerated industrialisation as key strategies to create jobs for Ghanaians.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ICU’s new office complex in Accra on Wednesday, December 18, ICU General Secretary Morgan Ayawine emphasised the need for a collective approach to tackling socio-economic challenges and promoting national development.

“We have so many problems, and one of them, which is a major albatross on our necks, is the unemployment situation.

“So if we are leading people, we are leading workers, and then we want the graduates who are roaming the streets of Accra and the regional capitals to get jobs, do we sit aloof and say, the government should do it alone? It takes the collective responsibility of everybody [to create jobs].”
