The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nii Ashie Moore, insists that the party has won 31 out of the 34 constituencies in the region.
In response to the Electoral Commission’s statement that it will not accept the collated results from certain constituencies—including Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, and Dome-Kwabenya—Mr. Ashie Moore emphasized that any disputes regarding the results should be taken to court.
Speaking in a media interview after an event to recognize the party’s supporters, Nii Ashie Moore expressed confidence that all 31 Members of Parliament (MPs) elected in the region will be sworn in on January 6, 2025.
During a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, December 19, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa explained the irregularities that led to the decision. She revealed that the results for Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North were declared without proper collation, with significant omissions:
- Okaikwei Central: Results from 31 polling stations were excluded.
- Ablekuma North: Results from 62 polling stations were not collated.
But in a response, Ashie Moore stated “As a regional chairman, I visited every collation centre of the said constituencies that she has mentioned and with all these constituencies, results were announced, certified and polling agents of all the political parties and I as a human being and a leader of the political party, NDC in greater Accra witnessed the declaration of the results and even raised the hands of the said winner.”
“It is something that she has said and by the grace of God, since I have been a member of parliament, on 6th January at midnight, the 31 parliamentary candidates will be sworn in as members of parliament. We will use every legitimate means to make sure that our parliamentary candidates who have won the election will be sworn in, on the 6th of January.”
Emmanuel Ashie Moore further noted that all party members who worked diligently to ensure John Dramani Mahama’s overwhelming victory and the acquisition of thirty-one seats in the region will be duly rewarded.
