The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the Ghana Police Service to ensure heightened security at the various collation centres.
This request comes in response to incidents of vandalism allegedly perpetrated by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to delays in the announcement of some parliamentary results.
Both President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama have denounced these actions.
During a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, December 11, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo-Dampare, to take immediate measures to prevent any further incidents.
“We’re calling on the police, Mr IGP, the safety of this country is in your hands. Everybody is watching you, everybody is counting on you. Let your men provide maximum security at all collation centres.
“So that officers of the Electoral Commission can do their constitutional duty of making sure we have credible parliamentary candidates-elect in our next Parliament.”
