British Rapper Stormzy, 31, has been banned from driving for nine months after being caught using a mobile phone while driving his Rolls-Royce in London. An undercover police officer spotted him on Addison Road, West Kensington, in March last year.
Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Ebenezer Owuo Junior, pleaded guilty to the offence via a letter submitted to Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.
District Judge Andrew Sweet criticised his actions as “dangerous and irresponsible,” noting that Stormzy already had six points on his licence for previous speeding offences.
The court heard that the officer knocked on the tinted window of the vehicle and warned, “Get rid of your tints and get off your phone.” Stormzy’s solicitor stated that the rapper accepted full responsibility for his actions.
This isn’t the first time the artist has faced driving-related issues. In October 2023, he was stopped while driving a Lamborghini Urus with illegally tinted front windows allowing only 4% light transmission, far below the legal 70% requirement. Prosecutor Alice Holloway described the vehicle’s condition as a danger to “vulnerable road users.”
The judge imposed a £2,010 fine on Stormzy, who did not attend court. The incidents highlight repeated concerns about the rapper’s driving record, which Judge Sweet deemed “not good.”
