Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that 70 percent of streetlights in Accra are operational within the next 50 days.

She assured residents that significant progress would be visible by March 10, emphasizing her determination to fulfill this pledge despite challenges.

Speaking on the initiative, Minister Ocloo underscored the importance of well-lit streets in enhancing security and improving visibility for motorists and pedestrians. She noted that her office is working closely with relevant agencies to accelerate the repair and installation of streetlights across the capital.

“We will meet our target within 50 days. Even though we have had some challenges, we went around and found out that many of the cables were stolen, but we are making sure that we meet our target,” she stated.

She further added, “We have tasked the MMDCEs, so we are on a working visit to find out from them how far they have gone. We are also visiting the others as well. We want to make sure that by March 10, we should see something.”

The project is in response to growing concerns over poor street lighting in several areas, which has been linked to increased road accidents and criminal activities.
