Some traders at Tudu Market in Greater Accra are reeking from their losses after a fire ravaged two shops in a four-story commercial building in the early hours of Saturday, March 8.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze erupted around 2 a.m., starting in one of the shops on the top floor before spreading. Fortunately, the timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) prevented the flames from engulfing the entire building.
“The fire started around 3 a.m. A young man was the first to detect it and quickly raised an alarm. We then saw smoke coming from that side and immediately called the fire service, who responded swiftly,” an eyewitness recounted.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the fire, while affected traders assess the extent of their losses.
