Despite a recent directive by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to urgently resolve the ongoing power crisis, residents in Ho and surrounding areas have revealed that the situation remains unchanged.
For nearly a month, communities have been grappling with unannounced blackouts and low voltage, which have severely disrupted businesses and everyday life. Some business owners continue to rely on costly generators to keep operations running, while households report spoiled food and damaged electrical appliances.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, April 22, frustrated residents once again called on power authorities to act swiftly and implement lasting solutions.
“We are having so many challenges as far as the power supply system is concerned. Nowadays, almost every evening we experience light outages, and in areas where there are no blackouts, there is low voltage.
Our fans can no longer function well, the lights are dim, and our gadgets get destroyed easily, fridges and others.
“I want to appeal to the Volta Regional Minister, knowing too well that he has shown concern by visiting ECG and moving to Akosombo to have a tête-à-tête with the engineers over there. So I’m just hoping and praying that his efforts will bear fruit, and that whatever solutions come out of the effort will bring a lasting resolution.”
Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in collaboration with GRIDCo, has identified faulty transformers at the Asiekpe Bulk Supply Unit as the main cause of the ongoing power crisis in Ho and parts of the Volta Region.
According to officials, repair works began on Tuesday, April 22, to restore stable electricity to the affected communities.
The Public Relations Officer for ECG in the Volta Region, Eunice Tweneboakodia, while speaking to Citinews, assured residents that power supply would normalise soon.
“Work is still ongoing, and we are hopeful. Even before the work commenced, we gave residents the assurance that after this maintenance work, the low voltage issue would be minimised or even solved.”
