Police in Somanya are investigating the alleged gruesome murder of a tricycle (Pragyia) rider identified as Otu Samuel.
The lifeless body of the 30-year-old was discovered by police in a supine position, naked and lying near a gutter. His tricycle, with registration number M-23-GR 7942, was found engulfed in flames next to him at Dorhetso, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
According to multiple sources, the victim and other occupants of the tricycle were reportedly pursued to the scene around 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, after being accused of theft. The other occupants managed to flee, leaving the deceased behind.
Local residents questioned by police investigators, however, denied any involvement in mob action or hearing any cries for help from the victim or the other passengers.
At the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, a physician assistant on duty pronounced Otu Samuel dead on arrival after examining the body.
His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, police say no arrests have been made yet and are appealing to the public to provide any information that could assist in their investigation.
