ASA Savings and Loans as part of its corporate social responsibility has organized free eye and medical screening for residents at Jamestown.
The beneficiaries mostly the aged were screened for eye ailments, hepatitis B, malaria, blood pressure, sugar levels etc. Treated mosquito nets were distributed to people who tested positive for malaria.
The lead team from Modern Care Hospital, Abdul Rahman Akugri educated the beneficiaries on the importance of adopting healthy eating habits, and as well practicing personal hygiene in their homes and surroundings.
Free medication was giving to those who were diagnosed, as the medical team disclosed that 159 adults were screened with the remaining being children.
Mr Pope Neequaye, the Area manager of ASA revealed that this forms part of the company’s social responsibility and assured that this exercise will be undertaken frequently to improve the health conditions of the residents. “We do business with some of the inhabitants here and factoring their health will help to expand our business and theirs as well.
The branch manager of ASA’s Osu business center, Kailebi Nii Tsui Alabi explained the rationale of bringing this support to the doorstep of the Jamestown residents. “Majority of the residents here are aged and hence having mobility concerns. Aside this they face financial constraints to be able to visit nearby health facilities for healthcare services. We decided to do this for them to enable them know their health status”. She used the opportunity to admonish the beneficiaries to stick to their medications and adopt healthy lifestyles.
A beneficiary, Rose Norkor Nettey expressed satisfaction with the exercise and asked if this can be done annually to support those who do not have the financial means to visit health facilities to know their health status.
Another beneficiary, Naa Lankai Addy was pleased with the orderliness the exercise took. “I was having sight issues and a chronic pain around my neck, but after the screening and advise from the health professionals, I am going to take the drugs they have prescribed to remain healthy to be able to take care of my family.”
