Deputy Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has pledged to advocate for increased youth recruitment into Ghana’s security services.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, July 25, Mr. Quayson said the move would provide secure career paths for the youth, particularly in areas like Assin Fosu, which hosts the Ghana Immigration Service Academy and Training School, but, according to him, has seen limited local benefit.
“Absolutely, not immigration alone, I want to leverage a lot of the forces [security], because that will give the youth a secure future.
“Whether it’s Police, Immigration, Fire Service, Prisons, but most importantly, this has never really happened. Even though the Immigration School is in that Community, it looks as though they’re always shortchanged.”
When asked if the youth in Assin should expect opportunities in the security services, Mr. Quayson responded confidently, “I can guarantee that.”
