Residents along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway on Monday, July 28, witnessed a significant military deployment, as buses and armoured vehicles carrying troops made their way toward the Upper East Region.
Citi News checks have confirmed that the convoy is part of a planned military exercise aimed at strengthening internal security and enhancing counter-insurgency readiness in the area.
The training exercise will be conducted at various strategic locations, including Bawku, Sandema, Tilli, and Pusiga/Polmakom, and will focus on improving the preparedness of troops to respond to emerging security threats.
According to military sources, the operation will also serve to reinforce existing deployments in Bawku and its environs, following recent violent incidents in the municipality.
Code-named Exercise SAAGUGA GUGDA, the drill will integrate with ongoing security operations under Operation MAAIDA BUURI in Bawku, ensuring a stronger and more coordinated military presence in the conflict-prone area.
Security analysts say the exercise is expected to boost public confidence while sending a clear message of readiness to deter potential insurgent activities in the region.
