The Ghana Air Force has held a solemn memorial ceremony to honour three of its personnel and Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday, August 12, at the Air Force Base in Accra, where the ill-fated helicopter had departed.
It was an evening marked by music, heartfelt tributes, and words of encouragement, as service members, bereaved families, and members of the public gathered to pay their respects.
The fallen Air Force crew, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, died alongside the Defence Minister and four high-ranking government officials while en route to the launch of the government’s Cooperative Mining Initiative in Obuasi.
Other government officials who perished in the crash were Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Deputy NADMO Director-General and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.
The vigil served as a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by the fallen heroes, with attendees expressing deep gratitude for their service and commitment to the nation.
