Dozens of houses in Atonsu, Kuwait, within the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region, have been flooded following a heavy downpour on Sunday, October 12, that lasted for several hours.
Although no casualties were reported, affected residents say they were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge with benevolent neighbours due to the extent of floodwaters that inundated their properties.
In an interaction with Citi News, the residents blamed local authorities for failing to desilt the heavily choked Susan River, which they believe is the main cause of the flooding.
They are therefore calling on the National Disaster Management organisation (NADMO) through the government to urgently desilt the river and drains in the area to help mitigate the persistent flooding, especially during periods of heavy rain.
