The Minority in Parliament has criticised the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, describing him as incompetent for publicly pronouncing suspects guilty before a fair trial.

The caucus argues that Dr. Ayine’s comments on the former CEO of the National Food Buffer Stock, Abdul Wahab Hanan, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Dr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, labeling them as lawless looters involved in criminal enterprise, violate their constitutional rights.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, October 28, the Legal Counsel to the Minority Caucus and MP for Suame, John Darko, said the Attorney General must be called to order, accusing him of engaging in theatrics.

“He’s not being accountable. He’s just engaging in theatrics. He’s engaging in populism. He’s engaging in politics to destroy the integrity of people.

The minority, we are not against accountability. What we are against is the biased press trial, which the Attorney General seems to reveal to the extent that he’s virtually pronouncing the guilt of a guilty person even before they get a chance to open their cases before the court.”

He added:

“Mr Attorney General, competent agents don’t prosecute their cases in the court of public opinion. Competent agents prosecute their cases in the court where evidence is subject to street proof.

Why do we bring the evidence to the media circus to destroy the image of people even before they get a chance to open their defences? I say, people, we must rise up against this challenge.”
