Mahama: Digital growth must be inclusive, secure, and responsible

President John Dramani Mahama has laid out a bold vision for Ghana’s digital future, calling for collective national effort to build a cyber-resilient country that prioritises security, inclusion, and innovation.

Launching this year’s National Cyber Security Awareness Month in Accra on October 1, he urged Ghanaians to embrace responsible digitalisation as part of his administration’s broader Reset Ghana Agenda.

“If we all do our duty together, we can build a cyber-resilient Ghana,” the President said. “The risks are real, but the opportunities are greater.”

He emphasised that Ghana has the potential to become a leader on the continent in secure digital innovation—if the nation acts with urgency, wisdom, and inclusiveness.

“Digitalisation without security is unsustainable. Innovation without responsibility is dangerous. And opportunity without inclusion is unjust,” Mahama stated. “What we seek to build is not just a digital economy, but a digital society—one that is safe, inclusive, and accountable.”

The President highlighted that the Reset Ghana Agenda envisions a country where young people are empowered, businesses are supported to grow in a digital environment, and citizens are protected from online threats.

“A Ghana that is connected and protected. A Ghana that empowers its youth, supports its businesses, and secures its cyberspace for its citizens. That is the vision we are working toward,” he said.

The remarks come as the government prepares to ratify the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime this month, further strengthening Ghana’s legal and institutional capacity to combat cyber threats.

President Mahama concluded by urging stakeholders—from government and industry to civil society and ordinary citizens—to play their part in shaping a safe and inclusive digital future for the nation.
