Public Hearing of Keta Port Project marks another assuring step forward

The Public Hearing on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Keta Port project represents more than just an administrative requirement — it is a defining moment in the journey to realising a strategic national asset.

The transparent, well-organised and inclusive nature of the engagement sends a strong signal that this project is being pursued with seriousness, integrity, and broad stakeholder involvement.

The EIA process, by law, ensures that developments of this magnitude are subjected to environmental and social scrutiny. But beyond the formalities, this hearing reinforced what many already know: the Keta Port is not optional — it is essential.

Its strategic location and economic promise make it a compulsory national investment that must move forward decisively. The port will anchor a new economic growth corridor for the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole, catalysing jobs, trade, industrialisation, and regional integration.

Particularly commendable is the leadership demonstrated by the Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, The Board Chairman of Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority.

His personal availability and active participation in the public hearing reflect a rare level of commitment and hands-on leadership.

In an era where major infrastructure initiatives often stall due to weak follow-through, this level of presence at a critical stage is both refreshing and inspiring.

It reassures stakeholders that the project is in capable hands. As the EIA review and approval process advances, the momentum must not wane. Every institution, from the regulators to the investors and local stakeholders, must stay aligned to ensure the timely commencement and completion of the Keta Port project.

Ghana needs this port — and the people of Keta, the Volta Region, and the entire country are ready to embrace the transformation it promises.
