Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has revealed that former CEO of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) Edwin Provencal, was unaware that he had been placed on a stop list, leading to his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, November 12, Haruna described the lack of communication as a serious procedural lapse and accused the government of using the situation to embarrass former public servants, noting that Provencal did not even know his passport had effectively been restricted.
“He is still in detention because we were told by the lawyers yesterday that there is now way they will be able to release him. What is very critical is that he doesn’t even know that he has been banned from travelling outside the country.
“He was not aware that he was on the stop list. It was not communicated to him. If you are under investigation, they will take your passport. He is not aware. This government is bent on using every strategy to embarrass former government operatives,” he said.
Mr Provencal was reportedly arrested at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Monday, November 10, while attempting to board a flight to Maputo, Mozambique, without obtaining the necessary authorisation.
Citi News sources confirmed that the former CEO had been placed on a stop list as part of ongoing investigations into alleged activities during his tenure at BOST.
