Deputy Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Dramani Bukari, has urged the public to refrain from harsh criticism of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as investigations continue into the tragic El-Wak Stadium stampede that claimed six lives.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, November 17, Dr Bukari said the incident has exposed clear weaknesses in the recruitment system but stressed that only a thorough investigation can lead to meaningful reforms.
“We all believe that what actually happened revealed a flaw in the recruitment processes and even preparation towards the recruitment process, and nobody is hiding that under the carpet. There is an ongoing investigation into the matters; the findings may bring up things that all of us have not contemplated, and those are the ones that will inform a very rigorous transformation of the processes,” he explained.
He cautioned that excessive public condemnation could derail the investigative work and affect the mindset of those involved in uncovering the facts.
“So, for me, I will urge that we minimise the castigation and ensure that we allow the investigation to go on; otherwise, we can impede the investigation process in terms of diluting the mindset of people,” he said.
His remarks come as the government directs families of the six deceased women to submit names of qualified relatives for possible recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces.
