The Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Ghana, Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, has requested an urgent meeting with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following reports of the alleged mistreatment of a Sierra Leonean national by immigration officers in Accra.
The request comes after videos sighted by Citi News showed a confrontation between officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and a Sierra Leonean woman at a hotel facility. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Vicsem Hotel in Ogbojo, a suburb of Accra.
The woman, identified as one of more than 20 West African nationals awaiting deportation, was said to have been forcibly removed from her hotel room after she and others refused to comply with a deportation directive.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman — reportedly a registered nurse who had lived in the United States for 35 years — pleaded with the officers to allow her to remain in Ghana, claiming she had no relatives in Sierra Leone. Her plea was declined, and she is said to have suffered an asthma attack during the encounter.
In a formal letter addressed to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, High Commissioner Kaisamba expressed concern over the incident, stressing its implications for the safety and welfare of Sierra Leonean citizens in Ghana.
“Given the gravity of the matter and its implications for the welfare of Sierra Leonean citizens residing in or transiting through Ghana, I would appreciate the opportunity to engage the Honourable Minister at the earliest possible convenience to discuss the incident and explore appropriate measures to ensure the protection of our nationals,” the letter stated.
The Ghana Immigration Service has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
