The Ashanti Regional Police Command has introduced an enhanced security operation aimed at managing traffic and curbing crime across the region ahead of the Christmas festivities.
The Command says the strategy includes comprehensive measures to ease expected traffic congestion while intensifying efforts to track and arrest criminals who may attempt to take advantage of the festive period.
The goal, according to the police, is to ensure a safe and incident-free celebration for both residents and visitors.
Speaking on the sidelines of a Memorial Service held on Wednesday, December 10, in honour of fallen police officers, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, appealed to the public to support the operation by providing timely and credible information that can assist in arresting offenders.
He further urged the media to remain circumspect in its criticisms of the police, stressing that constructive engagement is vital for maintaining peace and security.
Addressing the growing concerns over traffic and crime in the region, DCOP Akoto said: “Traffic is a worrying trend in the Ashanti Region, especially in Kumasi. We are committed to ensuring it is well controlled.
“As we approach the festive season, robbers often come out to take advantage of and harm people, so we have deployed a lot of police officers to protect the town and the region. We urge the public to help us protect the community.”
