Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of late musician Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has announced plans to file an appeal following the High Court’s dismissal of her bid to be recognised as his only legal wife.
The court had rejected her claim that their union constituted an ordinance marriage, which would have legally barred Daddy Lumba from taking additional wives.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, 1 December 2025, William Kusi, Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer, said the appeal would be filed by the end of the day. He argued that the High Court should have ruled in her favour, citing supporting documents and admissions from the defendants that reinforced her claim.
Addressing criticisms that he mishandled the case, Kusi dismissed suggestions that the marriage certificate needed certification by a German official to meet court requirements. He stressed that the law allows multiple ways to present such evidence, which they had complied with.
The case has sparked public interest, highlighting the legal complexities of marital recognition in Ghana.
