GNPC Explorco, the exploration subsidiary of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has concluded a three-day high-level stakeholder engagement mission in the Northern Region aimed at strengthening strategic partnerships ahead of planned operations in the Voltaian Basin.
The visit also underscored the company’s commitment to social responsibility during the festive season. The delegation, led by the Principal Corporate Affairs Officer of GNPC Explorco, Mr Kwasi Appiah, held meetings with key regional authorities, including the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, the Regional Coordinating Director, Sumaila Ewuntomah Abudu and the Mayor of Tamale, Adam Abukari Takoro.
Discussions focused on aligning GNPC Explorco’s 2026 operational roadmap with regional development priorities.
A key highlight of the engagement was the Voltaian Basin Project, Ghana’s flagship onshore petroleum exploration initiative.
Mr Appiah reaffirmed the company’s confidence in spudding its first exploration well by the third quarter of 2026.
“The Voltaian Basin is more than just an energy project; it is a catalyst for economic transformation in the North. Our mission was to ensure that regional and municipal leadership are fully aligned with our progress. We remain committed to a Ghanaians-first strategy that prioritises local content, job creation and capacity building,” he said.
As part of its Christmas outreach, GNPC Explorco extended its “Lighting Up the North” initiative to vulnerable groups, donating items to the Tamale Children’s Home.
Speaking during the donation, Mr Appiah described the gesture as an expression of the company’s commitment to the people of the region.
“Christmas is a time for family and sharing hope. As a new member of this community, Explorco sees these children as part of our extended family. While our technical work focuses on resources underground, our heart is with the people above ground,” he noted.
Mr Appiah expressed optimism about the future relationship between GNPC Explorco and the Northern Region, describing the visit as the start of a stronger partnership.
“This three-day mission marks a new chapter in Explorco’s engagement with the Northern Region. We are committed to maintaining transparent and consistent dialogue with all stakeholders as preparations for the 2026 drilling campaign intensify,” he added.
GNPC Explorco is the upstream exploration and production subsidiary of GNPC, mandated to build national capacity for standalone operatorship and to lead exploration in Ghana’s inland sedimentary basins, particularly the Voltaian Basin.
