The Oti Region now has a state-of-the-art passport application centre, aimed at easing travel procedures for residents in the area.
The modern facility was commissioned on Monday, December 29, to provide efficient and accessible passport services, reducing the need for applicants to travel to other regions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the establishment of the centre reflects the Ministry’s determination to decentralise passport services and make them more accessible to citizens nationwide.
He urged applicants to avoid the use of intermediaries in the passport application process, stressing that the system is designed to be straightforward and transparent.
According to the Minister, the initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to efficient, transparent and citizen-centred service delivery, and forms part of the government’s broader efforts to expand passport services through modern, technology-driven facilities across the country.
Meanwhile, Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong described the commissioning as more than a ceremonial event, saying it symbolises government’s responsiveness to the needs of citizens in the region.
The Member of Parliament for Krachi East, Nelson Kofi Djabab, also commended the government for promoting equity in regional development through the establishment of the centre.
The ceremony was attended by the Regional Coordinating Director, Harry Nii Kwatei Owoo, heads of security agencies, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), Members of Parliament, religious leaders and traditional authorities.
