Afrancho, Bremang, others emerging as illicit drug hotspots – Chief warns

Afrancho, Bremang, Kronom, and surrounding communities in the Afigya Kwabre South of the Ashanti Region are fast becoming hotspots for illicit drug activity, sparking concerns over rising indiscipline and insecurity among the youth.

Dadiesoabahene and traditional leader of Ntiribuoho, Nana Baffuor Kofi Atobrah II, expressed deep concern over the trend, warning that it is gradually destroying the future of young people in the area.

Speaking on the sidelines of a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a new police station—which coincided with the commissioning of a 16-seater public toilet facility to improve sanitation—Nana Atobrah stressed the urgent need for law enforcement intervention.

“One challenge facing us is the smoking of marijuana, Tramadol, and other drugs. In this entire district, from Afrancho to Bremang and Kronom, they have turned this place into a station where they sell marijuana and all sorts of harmful substances. This has led to indiscipline and insecurity,” he said.

The chief called on authorities to fast-track the completion of the police post to curb the menace and restore order in the community, emphasizing that immediate action is critical to safeguarding the youth and the social fabric of Ntiribuoho.
