The Ashanti Regional Deputy Director of Kumasi Central Prison, James B. Mwinyele, has cautioned applicants seeking enlistment into the Ghana Prisons Service against paying money in the hope of securing recruitment slots.
Speaking to Citi News at the start of the screening exercise in the region on Monday, January 19, 2026, Mr. Mwinyele emphasised that the recruitment process is open, transparent, and highly competitive.
“No individual has been authorised to collect money or influence the outcome of this exercise,” he said.
He described the act of paying for recruitment assistance as unacceptable and warned applicants not to fall prey to such schemes.
“We have assured our young men and women that this process is open and competitive, so they should not allow someone to lure them into paying any money or be deceived into believing that they will get them into the service. We have told them that it is not done,” he added.
The ongoing screening exercise, scheduled to last three days, is expected to assess about 11,000 applicants across the Ashanti Region as part of the nationwide recruitment drive by the Ghana Prisons Service.
