Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31.

The former Vice President secured a decisive victory with 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 percent, positioning him to lead the party into the next general elections.

Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 percent, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong came third with 36,303 votes, representing 18.53 percent.

They were followed by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes, representing 1.02 percent, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth place, polling 402 votes, representing 0.21 percent.

The primary saw participation from over 211,000 delegates across the country, who cast their votes at 333 polling centres spanning all 275 constituencies.

Voting was conducted under tight security and closely monitored by party officials to ensure a transparent and credible process.

Early indications from the collation of results suggested a strong showing for Dr. Bawumia, reflecting broad support among party delegates.

Party leaders and observers hailed the exercise as largely peaceful, with minimal incidents reported during voting and counting.

Following his victory, Dr. Bawumia thanked delegates for their support and pledged to run a unifying and inclusive campaign leading up to the 2028 general elections.

He called on all NPP members, including those who supported other aspirants, to rally behind the party to secure a national victory.
