The Korle Klottey Municipal Chief Executive, Alfred Allotey Gaisie, has announced the introduction of a reward system to encourage assembly members and inner-city communities to actively support sanitation efforts.
He made this known during a media tour of the Assembly’s sanitation improvement strategies, aimed at improving environmental cleanliness across the municipality.
Alfred Gaisie disclosed that the Assembly has empowered private waste management companies to carry out daily morning and evening cleanups, with trackers installed on refuse trucks to ensure the timely collection of waste.
He added that the Assembly is piloting waste segregation, expanding the use of litter bins for pedestrians, and operating night sanitation patrol teams, supported by a planned call centre for residents to report sanitation challenges.
“We are trying to encourage the pedestrians to use those bins to ensure it is easy for us to collect and dispose. We have night patrols and morning patrols. We are going to open a communication centre where people can call in and alert us where we have challenges.
“This sanitation work is not just the assembly. It is with the people. If the people help us, it will be easy, that is why we said that within the electoral areas we are going to institute reward system to encourage assembly members to help the assembly in trying to keep the inner-communities clean” he stressed.
