The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has directed Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to urgently address the resurgence of filth in parts of the capital following the festive season.
In an interview with Citi News on Tuesday, January 6, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Prince Boakye Boateng, stressed that assemblies are expected to deploy available resources, including recruiting temporary sanitation workers where necessary, to restore cleanliness.
He also appealed to residents to recognise their shared responsibility in maintaining a clean environment, warning that poor sanitation poses immediate health risks to individuals and communities.
“It is incumbent on the MMDAs to ensure that wherever a place is unclean, or facing sanitation-related challenges, deliberate effort is made to clean it.
“We encourage them to recruit temporary staff, using the funds collected from tolls, to assist in managing filth,” Prince Boateng stated.
