The Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate dismissal of the Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) Professor Samuel Ofori Bekoe and Board Chair of NaCCA, citing what it describes as gross negligence over the inclusion of LGBTQ-related content in the withdrawn Physical Education teacher manual.

The call follows claims by the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, that the government was promoting an LGBTQ agenda through teacher manuals and other learning materials used in schools.

In response to the controversy, NaCCA withdrew printed copies of a Senior High School (SHS) teacher manual after acknowledging that sections on “Gender Identity” contained in the Year Two Physical Education and Health (Elective) Teacher Manual were inconsistent with Ghanaian culture, norms, and values.

The Council has since issued a revised version of the manual, which it says aligns with national values and provides a biological understanding of the subject.

Speaking to the media on behalf of the Minority caucus on Thursday, January 15, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said NaCCA’s leadership had failed to prevent the inclusion of the content, representing a serious breach of public trust.

He added that the printing, distribution, and subsequent recall of the manuals had resulted in financial losses for the state, for which the Council’s leadership must be held accountable.

“We demand the dismissal of the Director-General of NaCCA and the Chairman of the Board for failure of oversight and breach of public trust. NaCCA is now telling us, assuming without admitting, that the document was developed by the NPP government in 2024. If you don’t believe in it, why go ahead to even print them in 2025?

“That is causing financial loss to the state because these are manuals you have printed and distributed across the country,” he stressed.
