The Nungua Traditional Stool has warned the Okpelor Sowah Din Family of Teshie and Trasacco to desist from any occupation or development activities on lands at Nmai Djor, describing such actions as unlawful.
Referencing decisions of the Supreme Court, the Stool said the continued activities of Trasacco and the Okpelor Sowah Din Family on the land, despite full knowledge of ongoing court proceedings, amount to a deliberate attempt to overreach the court and undermine the administration of justice.
The Stool cited Supreme Court judgments, including Empire Builders Ltd v. Topkins Enterprises Ltd & Others (2020) and Nii Daniel Marleynai v. Katamanso Stool & The Lands Commission (2023), which it said clearly establish the Nungua Stool’s ownership of the Nmai Djor lands.
Addressing a press conference at the hall of the Nungua Traditional Authority, Nii Borteyfio Borteykwei Afadi Nsuro, Nkpor Mantse of Nungua, speaking on behalf of the Stool, said any entry onto, development of, sale of, or interference with the land while the matter is before the courts constitutes contempt of court.
“Any such actions are a clear affront to judicial authority,” he stated.
The press conference, which was attended by traditional priests and priestesses as well as former Greater Accra Regional Minister and Chief of Kpone Katamanso, Tatse Nii Laryea Akuetteh, followed a violent shooting incident on January 10, 2026, which the Stool said endangered lives and threatened public peace and security in the area.
The Nungua Stool strongly condemned what it described as the unlawful invasion and occupation of its ancestral lands at Nmai Djor, accusing Trasacco and the Okpelor Sowah Din Family of being responsible.
Nii Afadi Nsuro further alleged that the parties had deployed armed land guards and were seeking the backing of national security personnel to carry out development projects and intimidate residents.
“The Nungua Stool condemns this incident in the strongest terms and expresses deep concern over credible reports suggesting the involvement and protection of certain political actors who appear to be emboldening these unlawful acts in defiance of existing court processes,” he said.
The Stool cautioned the public, prospective land buyers and developers to exercise extreme caution and reject any documents purporting to originate from the Okpelor Sowah Din Family, stressing that the only valid title to the land emanates from the Nungua Stool.
It also called on state security agencies to intervene to restore law and order and maintain peace until the matter is finally determined by the courts, reaffirming its commitment to peace, lawful development, and the supremacy of the rule of law.
