The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned reports of inducement and vote buying during the parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The allegations come after delegates at the primary received 32-inch television sets from the campaign team of aspirant Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria. Baba Jamal’s team also distributed free boiled eggs, leading to moments of jostling among voters.
Baba Jamal in an interview with journalists noted that the gifts were intended as gestures of goodwill for the delegates and were not meant to influence voting outcomes.
In an official statement signed by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the party said the national executives had been alerted to widespread allegations that some aspirants engaged in bribery during the election.
The NDC described such actions as a direct violation of the party’s values and principles, as well as its ongoing reset agenda.
The party has announced the immediate launch of a full-scale investigation and pledged swift action against any candidate found guilty.
The statement further warned that future violations could lead to more drastic sanctions, including the possible cancellation of elections.
Meanwhile, the NDC parliamentary primary is being held to select a candidate for the upcoming by-election in Ayawaso East. Five aspirants, who successfully passed the party’s vetting process, are contesting the seat. They include Mohammed Ramme, NDC Constituency Chairman; Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late MP; Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed; Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed.
