The leadership of the Ghana National Tomato Traders Association has confirmed the safe arrival of trucks that crossed the border into Burkina Faso to purchase tomatoes.
This marks the first batch of traders to successfully return with their consignments after a week-long border closure that followed the deadly attack.
The development comes after traders and drivers were advised to steer clear of high-risk areas in the wake of the recent terrorist attack on Ghanaian tomato traders, which resulted in eight deaths.
On Tuesday, February 25, the Association’s leadership devoted time to sensitising traders, drivers, and other actors along the value chain on the importance of prioritising safety while conducting business in the neighbouring country.
The chairman of the association, Osei Tuffour, said the leadership will continue to educate traders and transporters as they go about their activities.
“The first batch of tomato traders and transporters who were given the chance to enter into Burkina Faso three days ago have arrived. This is the first car and I spoke to the driver and the traders.
“They went through without facing any dangers. The instruction given to them yesterday, they respected the instruction I gave them. They didn’t go to any danger zone, so they have arrived safely.”
