President John Dramani Mahama has announced what he describes as major gains in employment and poverty reduction, revealing that more than one million Ghanaians secured jobs between the first and third quarters of 2025.

Addressing the nation on Friday, February 27, the President cited figures from the Ghana Statistical Service indicating that approximately 950,000 people also exited multidimensional poverty within the same period.

“According to the Ghana Statistical Service, over 1 million Ghanaians have found employment between quarter one and quarter three of 2025. About 950,000 have escaped multidimensional poverty over the same period.

“This improvement indicates that our economy is gaining strength and resilience on the global stage. We are moving decisively from planning to action on our flagship 24-hour economy,” he said.

He further reported a marked improvement in Ghana’s external sector performance, noting that by December 2025 the current account had recorded a surplus of $9.1 billion — equivalent to 8.1% of GDP — up from 1.8% in 2024.

President Mahama attributed the positive trend to strong export performance in gold, cocoa and non-traditional exports, as well as increased remittance inflows, describing the development as evidence of renewed economic resilience.
