First Lady Lordina Mahama has pledged Ghana’s support for the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) #BuildingResilience Campaign, with a renewed focus on health access, education and women’s empowerment.
She made the commitment while addressing fellow First Ladies at the 30th OAFLAD Summit in Addis Ababa on Sunday, February 15, where she highlighted ongoing interventions being implemented through the Lordina Foundation.
According to her, the Foundation continues to provide free health screenings and treatment to thousands of women, children and the elderly, as part of efforts to strengthen families and improve community well-being.
She also announced that the Foundation has built three modern maternity and children’s wards at the Bole District Hospital, Nkoranza Municipal Hospital, and Bodom Health Centre, with another facility nearing completion in Asukawkaw.
Looking ahead to 2026, the First Lady indicated that the Foundation will expand its economic empowerment drive for women in small and medium-sized businesses, aligning the initiative with government programmes such as the 24-Hour Economy and the planned Women’s Development Bank.
On education, she revealed that the Lordina Foundation is supporting 40 underprivileged JHS girls through the Merck Foundation’s ‘Educating Linda’ Scholarship Programme, describing the intervention as a long-term investment in leadership and national development.
