‘Ghana is working again’ – Majority hails Ato Forson after mid-year budget

The Majority in Parliament has praised Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson’s performance following the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, saying the government’s economic management shows that “Ghana is working again.”

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, said Dr Forson had given a strong account of his stewardship and defended the government’s spending decisions amid criticism from the Minority that the budget review lacked concrete payments and policy direction.

Responding to the mid-year budget review in Parliament, Mr Ayariga commended the Finance Minister for presenting what he described as a transparent account of government expenditure and economic performance.

“Mr Speaker, I must say that the Finance Minister has given a very good account of himself,” he said.

He also rejected claims by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, that there was inconsistency in figures relating to government support for the agriculture sector.

The Majority Leader said the live broadcast of the budget review allowed Ghanaians to directly assess the figures presented by the Finance Minister.

He contrasted the current government’s fiscal approach with the previous administration, arguing that Dr Forson had been able to manage the economy without relying on some of the taxes and borrowing strategies used under the previous government.

Mahama Ayariga said that Parliament would support the Finance Minister’s efforts by considering and passing the bills introduced alongside the mid-year budget review.

“Under this Finance Minister, Ghana is working again,” Mr Ayariga said.

He added that the Majority caucus remained committed to supporting Dr Forson as he implemented reforms aimed at improving Ghana’s economy.
