The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), in partnership with KGL Group and the KGL Foundation, has commenced the implementation of a major healthcare infrastructure project that will significantly enhance diagnostic services at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).

The project, which goes beyond the Trust Fund’s initial appeal for support, will see the construction of a state-of-the-art diagnostic centre equipped with some of the most advanced medical imaging technologies available.

The new facility will house an MRI machine, CT scanner, mammography unit, X-ray machine and fluoroscopy equipment under one roof, improving access to specialist diagnostic care for thousands of patients.

The initiative follows the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s call on Corporate Ghana on February 5 this year to support the retooling of Ridge Hospital with modern diagnostic equipment. Responding to the appeal, KGL Group and the KGL Foundation committed to funding the construction of an entirely new diagnostic centre, representing one of the most significant private sector investments in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The project officially entered its implementation phase after Ghana Medical Trust Fund Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku and KGL Group Chief Executive Officer Alex Apau Dadey led their respective teams on a site inspection at Ridge Hospital on Thursday, July 23.

Once completed, the facility is expected to strengthen the hospital’s ability to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions by providing faster and more accurate diagnostic services. It will also reduce the burden on patients who often face long waiting times or are referred elsewhere for advanced imaging services.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund described the partnership as a shining example of how collaboration between government and the private sector can deliver meaningful improvements in healthcare.

The Trust Fund expressed profound appreciation to KGL Group for what it described as an extraordinary commitment to improving healthcare delivery, noting that the company’s support far exceeded the original request for diagnostic equipment.

According to the Fund, the partnership reflects a shared vision of expanding access to quality healthcare and demonstrates the critical role Corporate Ghana can play in supporting the country’s healthcare transformation agenda.

The new diagnostic centre is expected to become a major referral hub for advanced medical imaging services, improving patient outcomes and strengthening Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.
