Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged Nigeria to investigate circumstances surrounding alleged attacks on properties belonging to Ghanaian business mogul Sir Sam Jonah in the country.

Mr Ablakwa made the call when he received the letters of credence from Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Ghana, Shehu Ilu Barde, during a meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Foreign Affairs Minister appealed to the envoy to look into the concerns raised over Sir Sam Jonah’s Mobus Properties in Nigeria, stressing the importance of protecting investments and promoting confidence among businesses operating across borders.

The High Commissioner-designate assured Mr Ablakwa that he would examine the matter and engage the relevant stakeholders on the concerns surrounding the properties.

The discussions also touched on efforts by Ghana and Nigeria to deepen economic cooperation and expand cross-border trade as part of measures to advance the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Mr Ablakwa called for the removal of trade barriers between the two countries to increase bilateral trade volumes beyond the current levels.

He also urged Nigeria and other ECOWAS member states to build confidence in the proposed ECO single currency, saying it would support regional trade and economic integration.

For his part, Shehu Ilu Barde expressed appreciation to the Ghanaian government and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
