Nine out of the 20 individuals who sustained injuries in the tragic collapse of a storey building at the Experimental D/A School in Accra Newtown have been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical treatment.
The update was confirmed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso Central Municipal District, Rudolf Collingwoode-Williams, who has been closely involved in overseeing the response to the disaster.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, sent shockwaves through the community after the building unexpectedly gave way, trapping several individuals beneath the rubble.
In total, 20 people were successfully rescued from the debris and rushed to various hospitals across Accra.
However, the disaster also claimed three lives, casting a somber mood over the community and highlighting ongoing concerns about structural safety and building standards.
Providing an update on the condition of the victims, the MCE indicated that a number of those initially hospitalised have shown significant improvement and have since been allowed to return home after receiving treatment.

“Initially, we took 20 victims to various hospitals, but thankfully, we have nine recoveries who are now discharged from the hospitals. Currently, we are looking at 11 more who are also responding to treatments.”
