Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians to remain vigilant in safeguarding the country’s liberty, emphasising the enduring importance of ideas, strong institutions, and responsible citizenship in sustaining the nation’s independence.
According to him, Ghana’s independence represents a lasting reminder that strong institutions and guiding philosophies are essential to sustaining democratic governance for present and future generations.
In a Facebook post on March 6 to commemorate the 69th anniversary of Ghana’s independence, Akufo-Addo reflected on the deeper meaning of the country’s freedom and the responsibility it places on citizens.
“Our independence, for us and for future generations, represents the abiding truth that ideas matter; that philosophy shapes politics; that institutions outlive individuals; and that, as it is said, eternal vigilance remains the price of liberty,” he wrote.
He concluded the message by extending goodwill to citizens across the country, stating, “Happy Anniversary, Fellow Ghanaians.”
