The management of Bills Micro-Credit Limited has suspended four field officers captured in a viral altercation with a woman and handed them over to the Ghana Police Service for investigation.

The action follows a video circulating on social media that showed some officers of the company engaged in a confrontation with a woman who was carrying a baby. The workers were heard arguing with the woman over what they claimed was her failure to repay a GH¢300 loan.

In the video, one of the officers is seen seizing the woman’s phone. As she attempted to retrieve it while holding the baby, she fell to the ground.

In an earlier statement, Bills Micro-Credit Limited condemned the incident and indicated that it had begun internal inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

Providing an update, the company said the suspension of the officers was taken following a directive from its Board while investigations continue.

“Upon the directive of the Board, the officers involved in the incident have been immediately suspended by the company pending the outcome of investigations,” the company said in a statement.

It added that the workers have also been handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with independent investigations into the matter.
