The Technical Adviser to the Minister of Education, Prof. George Kweku Toku Oduro, has commended Takoradi Technical University (TTU) for achieving a historic milestone by graduating its first deaf student with a Master’s degree.
The student, Andowa Ama Buabeng, successfully completed a Master’s programme in Graphic Design, becoming the first deaf graduate at that level from a technical university in Ghana.
Prof. Oduro described the achievement as a significant step toward inclusive education, noting that it aligns with the government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education for all persons, regardless of physical ability.
He made the remarks while addressing the second cohort of the university’s 26th Special Congregation, where a total of 2,280 students graduated with Master’s and Bachelor of Technology degrees.
“Equally commendable is the university’s peaceful and stable academic environment, which fosters teaching and learning and institutional advancement. A special mention must be made of TTU’s historic accomplishment as the first technical university in Ghana to graduate a deaf student at the Master’s degree level,” he said.
He further praised the resilience of the student and the institution’s commitment to inclusion.
“This milestone reflects the resilience of the individual and the inclusive ethos of TTU. On behalf of the Minister for Education, I extend heartfelt congratulations to this graduand,” he added.
