Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John has raised serious concerns about the growing trend of drug abuse in the Northern Region, urging parents and communities to take urgent action to protect the youth.
Speaking to Channel One News during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in Tamale, he warned that drug abuse is destroying lives and undermining the future of many young people in the region.
“Let us do our best to get out of this drug abuse. It will not help us, it will only destroy us. I also charge parents with the responsibility to ensure that we try as much as possible to groom our children very well,” he said.
The Minister’s remarks come as part of a broader message urging peace, unity, and social responsibility during the Eid celebrations, highlighting the need for communities to work together to tackle pressing challenges affecting the region’s youth.
Religious leaders also echoed calls for tolerance and reconciliation among differing Islamic sects, emphasizing forgiveness and communal harmony during the festive period.
Some congregants at Masjidul Bayaan in Tamale called on fellow Muslims to embrace tolerance and respect for differing sects and consider each other as brothers and sisters.
“We shouldn’t only come and observe Eid, we should take it as a platform to forgive each other. In your community, those you are not in talking terms with, meet them, greet them and wish them a happy Eid,” Imam Ibrahim Mujib, a member of the Islamic clergy said.
