Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has acknowledged the significant role religious and faith-based organisations play in Ghana’s national development.

Ahmed Ibrahim made the remarks during an outreach and donation exercise to selected Muslim communities in the Greater Accra Region, where bags of rice and sugar were presented on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama as part of support for the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Ahmed Ibrahim noted that, the initiative is intended to support worshippers and bring relief to communities, ensuring that those who visit mosques during the period leave with smiles.

“The president [John Dramani Mahama], in appreciation of the endless contribution of religious and faith-based organisations to the development of the Ghana we want, sent us to come and do this token donation to them, knowing very well that in this very week, a lot of people will be trooping to their missions.

“In times like this, whoever comes to the mission or whoever comes to their leaders, must go with smiling faces. So this is a matter of putting a smile on everybody’s face, whether rich or poor, whether haves or have-nots. And that is what we came to do.”

The National Chief Imam, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, also used the opportunity to call on Ghanaians to remain pious, united and grateful to Allah while continuing to pray for Ghana’s leadership and development.
