The Member of Parliament for Kintampo, Joseph Kwame Kumah, has donated GH¢20,000 and a range of medical equipment to the Kintampo Municipal Health Directorate to support healthcare delivery and address accommodation challenges confronting health workers in the municipality.
The items presented include motorbikes, delivery beds, oxygen cylinders, and other essential equipment intended to strengthen operations within the local health system. Officials said the support is expected to ease some of the logistical and infrastructural pressures facing health facilities in the municipality.
According to the Medical Superintendent of the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, Dr. Anthony Twum, the situation had become critical and risked affecting the hospital’s ability to retain newly posted doctors.
He disclosed that the facility was on the verge of losing two medical doctors because of the lack of suitable accommodation.
“During my engagement with management of the hospital, I was told they needed a one-year rent advance payment for accommodation for the doctors, but I decided to pay for two years,” Kintampo MP said.
The legislator noted that the support forms part of his broader commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the municipality, urging constituents to refrain from requesting financial support from him for personal construction projects.
“The donation is funded by my share of the NHIS fund, and so those who might see this and want to approach me for money for their personal building projects should note that it’s a public fund meant for public projects, not private,” he stated.
However, the Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Alfred Ampofo, expressed appreciation to the MP for the continued support toward healthcare delivery in the municipality. He also called on other institutions and individuals to contribute to improving health services in the area.
“We need more working tools and equipment to enable us provide quality healthcare services to the people. This is not his first time of donating to us.
“He has been doing a lot including renovating some of our buildings. But we still need more help. So, I’m appealing to the churches, Mallams, NGOs and other stakeholders to emulate the MP’s kind gesture by donating more to support us,” Dr Ampofo said.
